10 Worst Video Game Tutorials Ever

A good tutorial will teach you everything you need to know in a fun, quick, and informative way. It’s forgiving enough to let you make your first steps in the game safely, but it also won’t hold your hand too tightly so that you don’t feel like the game is dragging you around and overwhelming you with useless information.

In the video game world, there are a lot of possible candidates for the title of bad tutorial, but only some of them are so incompetent at their job that they deserve to be called the worst.

They don’t teach you anything useful; they bombard you with useless information,; they take forever to finish, and in some cases you will actually need a third-party guide just so you can complete them!

If these tutorials were real-life teachers, every single student would despise them with passion. You’d be better off learning the game by yourself, but unfortunately you don’t always have a choice to avoid them.

The Witcher 2 is a brilliant game, but as far as its tutorial goes, it leaves a lot to be desired.

The sequel’s prologue, which is designed to act as an introduction to basic mechanics like combat, potion crafting, and the skills system, is so notoriously hard that even veteran players returning to the title after a while might struggle to navigate through it.

The tutorial is pretty much as counterintuitive and beginner-unfriendly as it can get. Not only does it provide little info on its objectives, but it also forces the player to deal with challenges that will require them to have some skill and knowledge beyond that of what it aims to teach you.

The enemies you fight are strong enough to down you in an instant, the map is chaotic and difficult to navigate, and some of the things you have to do, such as investing points into your skills, have additional unmentioned objectives that won’t let you continue until you figure out what to do yourself.

The whole sequence is a disorganized and frustrating mess, but at least it doesn’t take long.

Well, unless you keep getting killed and/or stuck, that is…
