The Monterey Finance Committee has come up with a recommendation for next year’s town budget that includes an increase in the fees for garbage collection, but makes no changes in the town’s $1.39 property tax rate. The proposed budget also includes a raise for city employees and makes no changes to their health insurance benefits.
“The recommendation is that we’re going to give a two percent cost of living increase to employees,” said finance committee chair Jamie Phillips. “And to balance [the budget], it’s going to require a 40 percent increase in the solid waste-sanitation fees that we charge.”
