Kids explore various vehicles at Kirksville’s Touch a Truck event

Children got an up-close look at the big wheels and flashing lights that usually pass them by.

It was all smiles at the Kirksville annual Touch a Truck event earlier this afternoon where kids had the chance to climb aboard a fire truck, ambulance, a construction vehicle, and much more.

The event took place at Rotary Park and had several highlights, from the landing of a helicopter to a comedic magic show.

“Well for the community, I think it’s a great time to kind of get out and see a few different things and kind of meet your friends,” Keegan Whisler, Park and Recreation Coordinator, told KTVO, “I’ve seen a lot of family members and like cousins and things come running across the grass and hugging each other and then they decide which vehicles they’re gonna go see. So, it’s kind of a fun event just to build more of the community and make things a little simple, easy walkthrough for parents and such, but still the kids get to get out, they get to see the space. They’re in the parks, they got the playground, they have all the exciting vehicles.”

There was surely no shortage of smiles—and many memories made.
