MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Gateway Ministries once again partnered with Feeding the Gulf Coast to host a mobile food pantry.
These mobile food pantries can help feed hundreds of families every month. And it’s especially important considering the prices that people normally pay.
“What we do is we go around and hand out food to the community. And it’s a great experience because food prices are extremely high right now,” Selenia Westbrook said.
Everything from canned food to fresh produce and even frozen pizzas and chickens were available on a first-come, first-served basis. Putting smiles on people’s faces and putting a dent in the big problem of food insecurity.
“It’s a great feeling because I personally like helping everyone. So it’s just a great feeling just to see the smiles on their face, and they’re just so appreciative when you do tell them that this is what we’re doing. And when they get the food, they’re like, ‘Oh, you’re handing this out?‘. And this isn’t our first time. We do this every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, but just for our mobile pantry, it’s even bigger,” Westbrook said.
But they can’t do it alone. Gateway is always looking for volunteers to assist them in the cause.
“That speaks volumes just to say okay, I just want to come out here and help someone. We just truly, truly appreciate our volunteers. Anyone who comes out here and helps, trust and believe it does not go unnoticed,” Westbrook said.
