MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – For basketball fans, there’s nothing more satisfying than a perfect swish, but at Sunday’s “Hoops for Autism” tournament hosted by the Central Alabama Jaguars, the real satisfaction came from supporting a vulnerable community.
“I get an adrenaline rush doing it, and it’s good to give back to kids that can’t fully do it so if we could play for them that’s what we love to do,” said Jaguars player Anthony Thomas.
The tournament raised money for the team’s newly formed “Bounce Buddies” program, a basketball training initiative for autistic kids.
“We create an atmosphere of their own whether it’s sensory items or whether it’s just training and basketball in general, so it’s a program where they can come and be free and be themselves.”
If you or someone you know would like to sign up for the program, you can find more information on the team’s website.
