Lima YMCA encourages active summer with Healthy Kids Day

LIMA, Oh (WLIO) – As the end of the school year approaches, the Lima Y is getting kids excited for an active summer.

Healthy Kids Day is a national YMCA event aimed at improving the health and well-being of children and their families. The Lima Y celebrated with a variety of activities to get kids moving, including jumping in inflatables, taking on an obstacle course, and running or walking a mile on the indoor track.

Local organizations also offered activities for the kids and shared information with parents about programs available to keep their children active after the school year ends.

“We have all kinds of agencies and businesses that have agreed to be here and just share the information that they have about how kids and families can stay active. And we have a lot of things going on here at the Y too that we want to share. About our day camp and Learn to Swim week and all of the different activities here. So, the parents can take part in this day too. So, it’s kind of fun for the whole family,” said Terri Averesch, vice president of the Lima YMCA.

Healthy Kids Day has been celebrated at the YMCA for more than 30 years.
