VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —Warren Central High School’s softball team took game one against Saltillo. The Lady Vikes won 3-1 in the playoff match putting them ahead in the series. Tonight’s win puts them on the road on Saturday with a chance to win the series.

“It was a great victory and we just need to get ready for tomorrow to do the same thing,” KK Williamson said. “We need to come out with our best game tomorrow and hit the ball so that we can get ready for the next round.”

Maddy Pant pitched the entire game for WC where she only allowed one run while striking out seven batters.

“We all worked together and got some big hits that forced us to get pumped so we’re ready for tomorrow and to win by a lot more,” Pant said.

The Lady Vikes earned all three of their runs in the first inning as they maintained their lead all night. Kennadi Williams hit an early RBI that sent MK Ferguson home to put WC up 1-0. Williamson then stepped up to hit a 2-run single that gave the Lady Vikes the 3-0 lead after Anzley Keen and Williams made it home.

Saltillo didn’t get on the board until the fifth inning when Davis hit an RBI.

Midway through the game, Pant hit a double and Addi Mullen smashed two singles in the win.

WC will travel to play Saltillo tomorrow in game two. A victory tomorrow for WC puts them in the second round of the playoffs and a loss will force a game three.
