Valero Car Show drives support for Coastal Bend kids in need

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Friday afternoon, it was all about the muscle and classic cars over at the Valero Car Show.

The event was held to raise money for the Coastal Bend Food Bank’s Backpack Program.

The program gives children in need across the Coastal Bend access to food and snacks to take home on the weekends and during schools summer break.

Organizers told 3NEWS about the event that is all about filling bellies.

“Food security is vital, it’s critical, our kids need to be able to go to bed and wake up and know that they have food to eat and not have to worry about it,” said Valero Energy Public Affairs Manager Darcy Schroeder.

The backpacks given to those in need come equipped with snacks like cereal, juice boxes and fruit cups.
