CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Chuck Smiley is a twice-retired, big-hearted human. His desire to do more after retiring from the Air Force and Boeing led him to start Cuisine Rescue in 2022.
The model itself, to partner with food donors to provide leftover meals to non-profits that serve the community, is not new. In fact, Smiley was mentored by his own daughter.
She heads up a similar non-profit in the largest city in America- New York City. Rather than becoming a local arm, she advised her father to start his own program.
Truthfully, she didn’t want to be “his boss.” Smiley’s commitment to being a source to bridge food donors and nonprofits is unwavering as he continues to seek out more businesses to come on board to donate food that would otherwise be thrown out at the end of the day.
