Food truck owners speak on tariffs

The Syracuse Food Truck Association was in Armory Square for its monthly food truck takeover on Friday.

There was good food, live music, beer, wine and more from 10 different food trucks. From soup to mac & cheese and Thai cuisine, vendors spoke about ongoing tariffs that may affect their prices.

Vendors at the event here told CNY Central that there are lots of factors possibly weighing on their business when it comes to setting menu prices. Depending on your cuisine of choice, some are worried imported items could rise in price because of new tariffs.

The price of eggs and inflation are impacting the ingredients that the trucks are using, according to vendors.

The food truck owners CNY Central spoke to said these are real costs they have to deal with, but they’re doing their best to hold the line on prices so they don’t drive away customers.

“We’re trying to keep prices down, so people want to come and enjoy themselves without having to spend an arm and a leg and just have a good dinner,” said Owners of Moonchot’s Authentic Thai Cuisine, William & Wipanun Anderson.

Co-owner of D&G’s Mac & Cheese David Pisciarino said, “That’s the big thing, keep our prices the same as they can and keep the quality the same as it possibly can for the consistency.”

The Andersons and Pisciarino said the tariffs are not impacting their businesses so far.
