MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – May is mental health awareness month, and to usher in the time of recognition, a special event is being held in Meridian this weekend.
The third annual Youth Talent Show for Mental Health is being hosted on Sunday at the DRL Community Center.
Zachary Ball Sr, the organizer, is a big supporter for lifting people up in dark times. He lost his father to suicide in 2018 and battled depression.
Since then, he has found love in supporting others through similar struggles that he has experienced in his past. He says this talent show is to show extra support to those who might not know how to express their internal struggles.
“It’s a platform to uplift them. You never know what they’re going through. Like I have two beautiful kids. I may not know what they’re going through. They can say they love me, but at the same time they hurting on the inside about something. So, you know, it’s just a great platform for the kids, for the youth.”
The talent show will be on Sunday, beginning at 2:30. Kids ages 4-18 are able to perform, and it is free for people who want to attend.
