BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) – A new program in the Quad Cities Area will grow donations for local food pantries.
Gift Gardens, also known as growing Illowa food together, is looking for gardeners to grow and donate fresh produce to be distributed to food pantries.
It’s a partnership between the River Bend Food Bank, the Iowa and Illinois extensions, and Tapestry Farms.
Anne McGlynn, founder of Tapestry Farms, said this will not only impact the community but those who will get involved.
“My hope is that the people who are doing the growing will really enjoy it and have a good time doing it while also helping our community,” McGlynn said.
The goal is to raise 5,000 pounds of produce to donate to the River Bend Food Bank.
Jayna Gallagher, with the River Bend Food Bank, said hunger can affect anyone.
“But we know that it’s gonna take everyone to help fill the gap and reduce the food insecurity problems right here in our community,” Gallagher said.
Orientation sessions will be at 7 p.m. on May 6 and at 10 a.m. on May 10th at the Tapestry Farms office in Davenport.
