WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – Hy-Vee is closing two major food preparation facilities, impacting 461 workers.
The chain is also closing a regional bakery in Cedar Rapids, as stated by Senior Vice President of Communications, Tina Potthoff.
60 workers are currently employed at the Cedar Rapids bakery.
According to Potthoff, all bakery employees are being placed elsewhere.
The other two facilities are located in Ankeny and Chariton.
The Ankeny facility produces items such as sandwiches, salads, bakery items, and take-and-bake pizzas.
The Chariton facility produces fresh-cut fruits and vegetables.
Products made at the facilities are shipped directly to stores across the state.
After conducting reviews of the products made at the facilities, Hy-Vee made the decision to move production back to local stores.
Both the Ankeny and Chariton facilities will close on June 24, impacting 461 workers.
In a release, Hy-Vee assured they were working to provide support for the affected employees by hosting hiring events to place the workers within Hy-Vee stores.
