Ouachita RiverFest 2025 kicks off in West Monroe with music, food, and the world’s largest duck

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – The streets of downtown West Monroe came to life Thursday as Ouachita RiverFest officially kicked off, ushering in a weekend full of fun, food, and feathered festivities.

The world’s largest rubber duck, affectionately known as “Mama Duck,” made her towering, inflated arrival Thursday morning marking the start of this year’s celebration.

“This is such a great time to share the spirit of our community,” said Courtney Hornsby, who encouraged festivalgoers to tag their experiences online. “Post about it, tag Ouachita RiverFest, and Happy RiverFest Weekend everyone.”

West Monroe Mayor Staci Albritton Mitchell highlighted one of the weekend’s signature events — the Duck Drop, set for Saturday at 5 p.m.

“We want everyone to be a part of the duck drop which will be Saturday at 5,” Mayor Mitchell said. “You can adopt your duck — that helps support projects here in downtown West Monroe.”

Local businesses are already feeling the excitement. Norma Rice, owner of Antiques & Treasures Galore, says RiverFest is one of the busiest weekends of the year.

“RiverFest is an amazing weekend for us,” Rice said. “We see a lot of out-of-towners. A lot of people come to see the duck and they want to visit the shops. We appreciate their support for our local businesses, so we’re looking forward to this weekend.”

Festivalgoers who shop along Antique Alley can also join the fun. for every $50 spent at participating businesses, shoppers receive a free duck entry for Saturday’s Duck Drop.

RiverFest continues through Sunday afternoon with even more entertainment and family-friendly events.
