Two Grant Parish kids donate to local animal shelter

GRANT PARISH, La. (KALB) – Two kids in Grant Parish recently made thoughtful donations to the Grant Parish Animal Control.

4-year-old Hadley Dupre set up her own lemonade stand to raise money for the Grant Parish Animal Control.

7-year-old Vincent McKay asked that, instead of presents for his birthday, people bring gifts that he could donate to the animal shelter.

Both kids had their ideas independently, and their parents helped them make it happen.

Hadley said doing this for the animals made her very happy, and she plans on setting up another stand in the summer.

She said she did this so the animals, “could go to the doctor…and get food too.”

Both Hadley and Vincent have dogs of their own, and Vincent said he wanted to help the other dogs find homes because dogs are his best friends.

Sheriff of Grant Parish, Steven McCain, said he was taken aback by the kids’ acts of kindness and that he’d never seen anything like this before.

“This has never happened before, and so when Vincent came, he showed up with two huge boxes that were filled with toys and treats and food,” McCain said. “Hadley is 4 years old, and Hadley came up with the idea of selling lemonade, and all of the money she raised selling the lemonade, she donated to our animal care program.”
