The Ozark County prosecutor’s office filed charges against a woman Friday after she allegedly used a BB gun to discipline her children, according to court documents.
Amy Trout faces several criminal counts, including endangering the welfare of a child, domestic assault, abuse or neglect of a child and armed criminal action.
According to the probable cause statement, employees with the Division of Family Services started investigating after the victims reported their mother had shot them with a BB gun as punishment. The children told the investigators they’d been playing with the BB gun and had left it outside, and that made their mother mad. Both children showed the DFS workers bruises from where they’d been hit by BBs.
While talking to Trout, the DFS workers said Trout told them she had shot at the children but didn’t think she would hit them. The workers told Trout this was “in no shape or form” an acceptable form of discipline. After her arrest, Trout reportedly made statements supporting the claims she had shot the BB gun at her kids.
Trout had her arraignment Monday, and will have a bond hearing on Apr. 22.
