Special agents arrest 2 in Beaufort County for food stamp fraud

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – Two people were arrested and charged with food stamp fraud in Beaufort County on March 31.

Dennis Lee Phillips Jr., 42, and Jennifer Nichole Phillips, 44, were arrested by special agents with the South Carolina Department of Social Services and the Office of Inspector General, according to the SC Department of Social Services.

The department says that Dennis and Jennifer fraudulently received $20,369 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.

Both were charged with one count of fraudulent acquisition or use of food stamps greater than $10,000 and were booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center.

The 14th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute this case.
