Summit Credit Union is offering a free workshop to go along with the Bite of Reality app.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Money doesn’t grow on trees. You can tell a kid that, but they don’t get it until they get a reality check and have to pay their bills. Instead of waiting years down the road, there’s an app called Bite of Reality and a free virtual workshop from Summit Credit Union that your kid can do this week to get a ‘Taste of Reality’.
“They will have a page called About Me, and it gives them what they’re doing as far as their occupation, what the proposed income for that occupation would be for a month, and all of their funds will automatically be deposited into their checking account. And then they will be prompted to start spending,” said Michelle Shanks, Summit Credit Union, Regional Partnership Manager.
Everyone on the app gets kids. Some more than one, with varying ages.
“Depending on the age of the child, they will make certain purchases. It can be clothes, books, or daycare,” said Shanks.
The app has a pie chart to show them what they’re spending and where. As well as how much month they have left versus how much money they have left.
The idea is to give your kid an idea of what it’s like to be an adult for a month and all the things that need to be figured in, like the ‘Fickle Finger of Fate’. That’s the stuff that just happens, including having to pay extra fees to a tax refund or finding a way to pay for the glasses your kid breaks. better.
The FREE workshop is on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 5 pm. You can register here.
