NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) – 14-year-old Sofia Bocanegra started Kits for Kids earlier this year. It’s a project where she makes birthday kits for children and teens so their families can use the supplies to celebrate. She started the project after seeing a need for it when visiting the HOPE food pantry in Nacogdoches. She puts cake mix, candles, plates, a birthday banner and a toy in each kit. She has managed to help 91 children since January, and she currently has a list of 236 children that she is trying to give kits to. Bocanegra sits at HOPE food pantry every Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., helping families.
