Lavon Johnson from Maryland to UNC to Texas

North Carolina coach Bill Belichick made waves in the transfer portal by signing quarterback Gio Lopez from South Alabama and wide receiver Adrian Wilson from Colorado. It looked as if the Tar Heels were going to continue winning in the portal but those expectations were seemingly too high as Lavon Johnson, who committed to North Carolina on Friday morning, flipped to Texas on Friday evening.

The defensive lineman, who played for Maryland the last two seasons, saw limited playing time for the Terps. But his size and athleticism attracted a lot of attention from college coaches.

Jack Endries saw his stock soaring after a breakout season last year at Cal where he posted 56 catches for 623 yards and two touchdowns. A former preferred walk-on for the Bears, Endries entered the transfer portal on Wednesday and was quickly one of the most popular players available.

His first visit was to Texas and he didn’t get out of Austin without committing to the Longhorns, capping off a big day for head coach Steve Sarkisian and company.

Former Texas receiver Johntay Cook was a five-star recruit in the 2023 class but his time in Austin did not go the way he expected so he entered the transfer portal in December. He decided to transfer to Washington but was dismissed from the team after an arrest. Cook was also arrested less than two weeks later.

Despite those run-ins with law enforcement, the talented receiver is set to take a visit to Arizona State this weekend.

Maraad Watson from Syracuse to the portal

Syracuse has seen more than a few players hit the portal this spring but losing Watson is its biggest blow yet on defense. The freshman started 11 games at defensive tackle in 2024 and posted 31 tackles, one sack, 10 quarterback pressures and three batted passes. He has three years of eligibility remaining and will surely be a popular prospect this spring.

New Purdue coach Barry Odom is making moves quickly during the spring portal. The first public commitment on Friday came from former Tulsa receiver Corey Smith. The Indiana native had a prolific high school career and still has three years of eligibility remaining. The receiver room in West Lafayette is still thin but will likely see more additions before this transfer cycle is over.

Memphis defensive back Chalil Cummings was Purdue’s second public commitment of the day. The Boilermakers needed reinforcements in the secondary and Cummings brings youth and upside to the unit. Cummings used his redshirt last season so he still has four years of eligibility.

The Boilermakers are getting a familiar face back in quarterback Ryan Browne, who transferred to North Carolina earlier this year. He decided to leave Chapel Hill when it became clear the Tar Heels were going to bring in quarterback Gio Lopez from South Alabama. Browne played in nine games during his career at Purdue, starting two of them.

Houston has had a strong 2025 transfer cycle thus far but it is taking a hit with the loss of Wilson. The standout cornerback entered and then withdrew from the transfer portal in December but now he appears to be headed elsewhere.

Wilson earned a top 10 coverage grade among Power Four cornerbacks for his performance last season, according to Pro Football Focus.
