YMCA of Parkersburg sets Healthy Kids Day for April 26

PARKERSBURG — The YMCA of Parkersburg will hold its annual Healthy Kids Day from noon-3 p.m. April 26 at the YMCA.

The free community event encourages families to start a healthy, active and safe summer. Healthy Kids Day is part of a nationwide initiative to promote health and well-being of youth and families.

Sponsored nationally by Peanuts, Healthy Kids Day is an afternoon of activities and opportunities to learn about local resources for youth development, health and safety.

Event highlights include an inflatable obstacle course for children and families, free healthy snacks and beverages, vision screenings, an EMS vehicle display and safety education from WVU Medicine, community resource booths from organizations including the Parkersburg Police Department, Wood County Library Book Mobile, United Way, Westbrook Health Services, Discovery World on Market, Humane Society of the Mid-Ohio Valley, American Red Cross with information on the free summer learn-to-swim program, Downtown PKB and River Valley Medicine & Pediatrics, Tae Kwon Do demonstrations, water safety tips and swim program information, group fitness demonstrations for all ages and on-site job interviews for YMCA youth development and lifeguard positions.

“It is so important for kids to stay active over the summer, both physically and mentally,” said Criss Welshans, Chief Operating Officer of the YMCA of Parkersburg. “At the Y, we believe in providing resources for families to create healthy habits, no matter the time of year. Healthy Kids Day is a fun, free, community-wide event that encourages families to take advantage of all the great summer activities the Y has to offer.”
