B-A’s Cherry has big meet

PHILIPSBURG — The Bellwood-Antis boys and girls swept Central and Philipsburg-Osceola in high school track and field action on Thursday.

Ella Cherry won the 100-meter dash, 200 dash, long jump and triple jump to help the Lady Blue Devils beat Central, 93-57, and Philipsburg-Osceola, 132-18. Cherry broke the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 6 inches, and Emma Taneyhill set a school mark in the discus with a 115-0.

The Central girls beat P-O, 126-24, with Lanee Berkhimer winning the 1600 and 3200 runs.

The Bellwood boys beat Central, 79-71, and P-O, 117-33, while the Central boys beat P-O, 99-51.

Jayce Quick won the shot put and discus, and Ethan Shawley won both hurdles races for the Bellwood boys.

Bednarski wins four

NORTHERN CAMBRIA — The Portage girls got wins in the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump from Kendall Bednarski in a 72-67 win over Northern Cambria, but the Lady Mustangs fell to Conemaugh Township, 107-43.

On the boys side, Portage fell to Northern Cambria, 86-59, and Conemaugh Township, 81-68, despite Bode Layo winning the discus with a throw of 133 feet, 9 inches and the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 7 inches.

McCONNELLSBURG — The Juniata Valley boys lost to McConnellsburg, 106-40, and Southern Huntingdon, 97-46, while the JV girls fell to McConnellsburg, 71.5-60.5, and Southern Huntingdon, 96-44.

Ella McCrum won the 800, 1600 and 3200 runs for the JV girls.

The McConnellsburg boys beat Southern, 101-49, while the Southern girls downed McConnellsburg, 105-35.
