‘Tis the season: pad Thai, ice cream and fried clam shops are now open for business

When this time of year rolls around, a couple things are guaranteed. First, there’s the infamous fake spring — you know, the week where it’s 50 degrees and sunny but then all the sudden it snows over the weekend. There are baseball games and blooming cherry blossoms, but — most importantly — it’s the time of year when seasonal restaurants open back up for the summer. The smell of fried clams and sunscreen drifts in, signaling that beach days and ice cream runs aren’t far behind.

Thankfully, we’ve assembled some of the best seasonal spots from Brockton to the South Shore. Let’s get in to it.

Tuk Tuk Pad Thai, Lakeville

Located at 78 Main St. in Lakeville, Tuk Tuk Pad Thai is officially open for the season from now until October. This is Orawan Tang-on Maloney’s fourth year operating the food truck alongside her husband Mike Maloney. Known to her regulars as simply Chef Wan, the Thai-born chef offers classics like pad Thai, pad see ew and drunken noodles. But she also sells vibrant macaroons and even homemade sourdough bread — baked from an eight-year-old starter.

Stop by between noon and 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday from now until October. Chef Wan is known for her curry puffs, so if you’re looking for something that’s somehow sweet, savory, chewy and flakey, look no further.

As a rule of thumb, every food list needs a sweet treat. Dessert is part of the meal, not something that occasionally gets augmented to your dinner. So if you’re hoping for something sweet, and you also want to support local farmers, stop by Hornsrta Farms Ice Cream Dairy Bar.

The Norwell shop at 246 Prospect St. just opened for the season on April 14, and its hours are currently noon to 6 p.m. Once school gets out, hours will expand from noon to 8 p.m. If Whitman is closer to you, pop in their other location at 60 Bedford St. anytime between noon and 8 p.m.

Tony’s Clam Shop, Quincy

For 61 years Tony’s Clam Shop has been serving Wollaston Beach with clams, calamari and lobster rolls. Unfortunately for its most devoted customers, Tony’s is not open year round. But fortunately, the shop opened its doors for the 2025 season on April 3. Recently, Tony’s even won The Patriot Ledger’s ‘Best Wollaston Beach clam shop’ poll. So, be sure to pop by before tourists flock to Tony’s during the summer months.

Tony’s is located at 861 Quincy Shore Drive. It is open every day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Farmer’s Daughter, North Easton

I’m cheating a bit with this one. Here’s why: The Farmer’s Daughter in North Easton is technically open year round. However, they have immaculate outdoor seating. And while we all love New England, we don’t always love being forced into indoor dining during the winter months. Now that the sun is beginning to shine again and temperatures are reaching acceptable levels, check out The Farmer’s Daughter in North Easton for some exquisite outdoor dining.

The restaurant is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. They are located at 122 Main St in North Easton. Click here to book reservations.

Food Truck Tuesdays, Hanover

You’re going to have to be a little patient with this one, but I promise the wait is worth it. Starting on May 6, The South Shore Food Truck Association will host Food Truck Tuesdays at 405 Washington St. in Hanover. For those who like to have options, this is a great way to spend an evening after work. The event will take place every Tuesday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. until the season ends.

If you can’t wait until May (but are willing to drive a little further), stop by Food Truck Thursdays in Kingston, located at 65 Pottle Street. The first event of the season is on April 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Already, there are 10 food trucks signed up, so you will have plenty of options.
