SEMO to offer new Game Development Degree this fall

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – Southeast Missouri State University could be home to the next big video game.

The university will offer a new game development degree to students with a passion for video games. The program will give students hands-on experience designing and creating their own video games.

Software developers are in high demand. A computer science instructor with SEMO, Joshua Schulz, said the new degree will help them bring in more students.

“I can see firsthand that a lot of students are interested in making projects that are related to games. Computer science students are known to be gamers. They like playing games, and you know, they also like making games. The video game industry is booming all around the world, and enrollment should see a positive uptick,” Joshua Schulz said.

Another computer science instructor, Andrew Schulz, said he is excited to see what students will create.

“We have some ideas about kind of what the end of the program might look like. Clearly, we want students to develop their games, so we’re excited about what they can contribute. Just to see their interests come to life in game development, that’s always fun,” Andrew Schulz said.

The new program launches this fall, available to both current and new students.
