Phoenix police pointed guns at people almost 20,000 times between January 2021 and November 2024.
Your Sunday article “’Terror’ at gunpoint: Here’s how often Phoenix police are aiming guns at kids” paints a picture of rogue cops going to the extreme.
The real question is why are so many juveniles involved in activities that provoke law enforcement to carry and wield deadly force?
Why are mothers and fathers not there to guide and direct?
“I didn’t do anything, officer,” is a canned and pre-recorded phrase. Maybe that kid didn’t, but someone called the police about a gun or shots fired and that child is there, with others.
Everyone, EVERYONE, is a suspect until the police are called to sort everything out and make the threat go away.

Weapons possession was becoming a bigger problem on campus, according to The Republic (“Phoenix Union High School District to install and develop policy on weapons detectors,” April 3).
Parents have to fulfill their responsibility as parents. It’s the most important job on the planet, and many of these issues are caused by parents not doing their job.
