CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Foul ball hits, shatters glass on sports reporter’s camera

For News 13 photographers, every piece of equipment is essential — no matter how small.

While covering the T.C. Roberson vs. North Buncombe High School baseball game on Monday, April 14, sports reporter Marvin Parker found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

His camera was positioned behind home plate, protected by netting, when a foul ball struck just the right — or wrong — spot, smashing part of the gear.

Fortunately, News 13 cameras are equipped with thin, clear protective filters over the lenses. The $50 filter absorbed the impact and shattered, saving the camera’s actual lens, which would have cost thousands of dollars to replace.
