Spellebration, the annual event supporting AR Kids Read, deviated from its traditional format April 3 when guests were asked to pull out their smartphones.
The event, held at the Chenal Event Venue, usually is a spelling bee for adults. But this year, the main event was a three-round trivia contest where guests answered questions on their phones. All of the questions were related to the organization’s mission of helping children read at their grade levels.
At the event, Mary and Jim Wohlleb were presented with the Bee the Difference Award for their volunteer tutoring work with elementary school students. Dr. Chad Rodgers, a pediatrician, was presented with the Community Leader Award.
Legacy Termite & Pest Control was the main sponsor of the event. Jay Heflin, a chief executive at the company, welcomed guests. Leslie Parnell and Don Gooch were co-chairmen of the event.
