9 & Dine: ‘Mold-like substance’ found on food during Columbus restaurant inspection

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – This week’s restaurant scores are in!

Wild Wing Cafe on 6525 Whittlesey Blvd. scored an 80 on a recent health inspection. According to the health department, the following violations were found.

  • Meatballs and chicken wings located in a walk-in cooler with a fuzzy gray mold-like substance on them
  • Time/temperature control for safety foods throughout the entire establishment cold holding at temperatures above 41*F

According to the health department, the food was discarded during the inspection.

Krystal on 3446 Victory Dr. scored an 82 on a recent health inspection after an inspector found the following violations:

  • Sliced cheese, liquid eggs, raw shelled eggs, and milk reaching temperatures greater than 41*F in the walk-in cooler in the main kitchen
  • Shredded cheese reaching temperatures greater than 41*F in the reach-in cooler in front food service area
  • Sliced cheese reaching a temperature greater than 41*F in the ice bath in front food service area
  • Sliced cheese stored in the walk-in cooler with an expired discard date
  • Reach-in cooler in the front food service area not sealing properly which was causing the cooler to read at temperatures greater than 41*F
  • Gasket/hinges in need of replacement
  • Walk-in cooler holding at temperatures around 50*F
  • The most recent inspection report was not posted in the facility
  • Ice scoop in the front food services ice container below the drink machine with its handle directly in the ice
  • Scoop handle for the diced onion container stored directly on top of the food
