GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Local and state advocates want to call attention to Child Abuse Prevention Month.
CASA Wisconsin and its Northeast Wisconsin chapters have been sharing a lot about this. Learning and volunteering, spreading awareness, all of that is a good start.
CASA stands for “court-appointed special advocates.” They work year-round to support abused and neglected kids in our region and state.
Volunteers help kids living under the protection of the courts and child welfare agencies. As a volunteer, you’d be assigned to a child and help make sure their voices are heard.
CASA Wisconsin says keeping kids safe takes all of us. You can help by becoming a volunteer yourself.
The next training starts on Monday, April 14. If you miss the sign-up, you can catch the next one.
You don’t need prior experience. You’ll get all the training you need.
CASA Wisconsin says it’s a powerful way to advocate for kids in our community. The organization says at least 1 in 7 children in the U.S. experienced abuse or neglect in the past year.
In 2023, CASA served over 930 kids in the state.
Another way to show support is by putting blue pinwheels on your lawn or at your business. It’s a symbol for Child Abuse Prevention Month and represents innocence, playfulness and childhood.
