All I’m saying is that this article is titles ‘This Small-Town Maine Gas Station…’, which means I had to pick only one. And pick one, I did.

For the record, I didn’t just hum-chuck a dart at a map and end all the way up in Eustis, Maine for no reason. On the contrary, I actually gave this some serious thought before deciding that Pines Market needed to be featured in this article.

You see, for many, many years my family and I have been travelling all the way up to Eustis, Maine in the summer for a week of camping at the historic Cathedral Pines campground. Situated on the shores of (also historic) Flagstaff Lake, Cathedral Pines has a waiting list a mile long for their pristine and picturesque waterfront sites.

So where does Pines Market come in to play? Well, up in the booming metropolis of Eustis, near the Canadian border, there really isn’t much going on- and that’s why people love it. However, that means there’s only one store in the whole town.

Located just ‘up the rud’ from Cathedral Pines, literally a stone’s throw, is Pines Market. And, kind of like Hussey’s General Store in Windsor (minus the guns and gowns), they’ve got just about everything and anything you could need.

From camping supplies to clothing, knick-knacks to liquor and beer, Pines has everything ya need. However, it’s behind the counter where they really shine. Home to their very own deli and pizza shop, Pines puts out some of the best gas station food in the Pine Tree State.

It’s a tradition that our first night camping each summer we go to Pine’s Market for takeout instead of cooking at the campsite. Our order usually consists of a few deli-fresh sandwiches and a couple of piping-hot pizzas. The food always hits the spot, especially when washed down with your favorite cold one.

So the next time you find yourself seemingly in the middle of nowhere, Maine (Eustis), do yourself a favor and pop into Pines Market. Tell them Matt sent you. They won’t know who that is.
