
A 71-year-old man is facing a long list of felony charges after police say he intentionally rammed into an SUV carrying eight people — including five children.Kevin McNamara appeared in court Thursday wearing an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs. McNamara was arrested Wednesday after a road rage incident that started on Beville Road and ended in the middle of a Daytona Beach golf course off of Wilder Avenue.According to investigators, McNamara began tailgating an SUV, then got out of his truck and started yelling at the people inside — hitting their car and allegedly spitting on a passenger. A witness described the scene during a 911 call, saying McNamara “was driving crazy erratically, then stopped his car in the middle of the road and started screaming at the person in the car in front of me and smashing at her window and throwing stuff.”The SUV’s driver, frightened for her safety, pulled into a nearby golf course parking lot off Wilder Boulevard to get away and call for help. But police say McNamara followed her — and with all eight occupants still inside, slammed his truck into the back of the SUV, then reversed and hit the driver’s side.Another witness also called for help.He said, “I was just hitting some balls on the golf range, and these people came in screaming like a bat out of hell.”McNamara fled the scene, but deputies tracked him down later that evening. He was taken into custody and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail.Investigators also found a BB gun in his truck, which was confiscated. His vehicle was impounded.McNamara’s bond is set at $150,000. He’s now facing 15 felony charges — including nine counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and six counts of child abuse.
