French Quarter Fest kicks off Thursday with food, music and a riverfront parade

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The French Quarter Festival kicks off Thursday with four days of live music, food, and revelry along the Mississippi River and through the historic heart of New Orleans.

Things get underway with the festival’s kickoff parade at 10 a.m., ending at Jackson Square. Music is set to begin shortly after, with stages across the French Quarter.

Now in its 41st year, the free French Quarter Fest is one of the city’s most beloved events.

The event stretches from the riverfront near the Bienville statue all the way to Esplanade Avenue.

Festivalgoers are encouraged to bring folding chairs, sunscreen, hats, and water as the weather is expected to be warm and sunny. With Thursday serving as the traditional “locals’ day,” organizers say it’s the best time to beat the weekend crowds and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Quarter.
