Kent-Ravenna food challenge runs through April

The Kent-Ravenna Mayor’s Food Challenge, a friendly annual competition to see which community can collect the most donations in the fight against hunger, is running through April.

Items especially needed include canned vegetables and potatoes, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, Ramen noodles, pasta sauce and cereal. Officials say non-perishable, shelf-stable food items are most needed.

Ravenna is collecting for the Ravenna Center of Hope. The Kent collection will benefit Kent Social Services.

Ravenna police will collect donations from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Ravenna Giant Eagle, 909 E. Main St.

In Kent, non-perishable food items can be dropped off in a collection bin in the lobby of Kent Police Department, 301 S. Depeyster St., at any time. Dropoffs also can be made directly to Kent Social Services, 1066 S. Water St;, or Ravenna Center of Hope, 1081 W. Main St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Go to tinyurl.com/2knc847z to make monetary donations to either Kent Social Services or Ravenna Center of Hope. The collection will run through April 30.
