CASA of northeast Oklahoma is working with community members to raise awareness for kids in the foster care system.
Throughout the month of April, you will find paper dolls dressed in kids clothing in different businesses and organizations — all part of CASA’s Paper Doll Project.
“Get involved in your community, become part of the solution because these kids are worth it,” said Mark Ogle, CASA Northeast OK.
Ogle said the businesses sponsor the dolls, dress them and use them to raise awareness for Oklahoma’s children.
“They come in the business, they see it and it sparks a conversation, ‘how can I help,’” Ogle said.
Ogle said any clothes that are donated go to kids in foster care and any money raised will go toward training more CASA advocates.
“A lot of foster children have never received a new piece of clothing, this will be the first new piece of clothing they’ll ever get,” Ogle said.
Alyssa Casey and Rachel Underwood work for Access Dental in Claremore. They learned about the Paper Doll Project a couple years ago and wanted to get involved. This is their first year sponsoring and displaying a couple dolls.
“Hopefully just to raise awareness and have people donate clothes and whatever they can to help all these kids,” Casey said.
They hope their act of sponsoring a couple dolls makes a real difference for kids in foster care.
“Some of these kids, they leave home, and they have nothing more than the clothes on their backs, so if we can provide clothes and give them the opportunity to feel good about themselves, how can you not,” Underwood said.
If you want to sponsor a doll, it’s not too late email Mark at [email protected].
