LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Chef Angie Ragan first found her love for food from her grandma, who was also a chef and owned Colonial Kitchen in Lubbock.
Cooking all her life, Ragan began her career in the kitchen in 2019. She grew to fame after a fifth-place finish on season one of Gordon Ramsay’s Next Level Chef
Now, she is opening her own restaurant in the Hub City, Salt by Angie.
Ragan says she knew she wanted to start her dream where it all started.
“This is the first time in my adult life where I’m down here and I’m walking, I’m going down to the Metro Tower and I mean, everything is just right here and it is super fun,” Ragan said. “I love we’re doing what we need to do to develop Downtown Lubbock because I think it’s super fun, so I think if you want excellent food and a great time and to feel like you were loved on, just come see me.”
Ragan wasn’t classically trained in a culinary institution and says her life experiences and hard work have brought here where she is today.
“You can have all the things that set you up for success but if you’re not persistent and if you’re not unstoppable, this wont work, this won’t work for you,” Ragan said. “You have to be unstoppable and you have to be willing to go home after a 21-hour shift, cry a little bit, not know how you will make it tomorrow but you have to get up tomorrow and you have to do 21 hours again.”
Although there are many great places to eat in the Hub City, Ragan hopes when you walk into her restaurant, you feel like you are family when you walk out.
“So when I really started thinking, ‘what makes me different,’ it really is my sense of hospitality and my sense of not only do I want you to leave and say, ‘hey, that was some pretty good food,’ I want you to feel like you were loved,” Ragan said. “I want you to feel like you were expected, I want you to feel like we did everything intentionally, so the point of this restaurant for me is to show how much I love this community, how much I love my guests.”
Located at 1109 Broadway, Salt by Angie is inviting everyone to its grand opening and ribbon cutting beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, where you will be able to try out the newest culinary attraction in Lubbock.
