JUNCTION CITY, Wis. (WAOW) – An event was held by USSA to help disabled and critically ill veterans and children, learn how to hunt and have fun while doing it.

“I’ll tell you what, everyone is having a great time… I give them three rules when they get here. The first rule is to be safe, the second rule is to have fun, and the third rule is to leave here with at least one more friend than they came with.” said John Haydock, the hunt coordinator at USSA.

The 12 participants got a full hunting experience. Dedicating a day to learning all about hunter safety. Then the next day getting up at the crack of dawn and heading out to the blinds.

Lucas, a hunter participating in the event said, “Basically,  we were waiting out there for like an hour and 30 minutes… Then he’s like, don’t move… He gets the gun and gets the stand all situated… I got situated and I destroyed the turkey.”

He added, his favorite part of the hunt was getting his turkey. However for the organizers, its all about the hunters.

Haydock added, “Oh the smiles. There is nothing better than the smiles when they come back in from the field, whether they get a bird or not if they even saw them, or heard the gobbles. That is the best part of my day, and the best part of my year every year.”

Both the hunters and the organizers agreed that hunting is all about making memories, and the event helped do just that.
