HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – Kids and their families celebrated spring in the Copper Country Saturday afternoon.
The Hancock Business Association (HBA) hosted Kids Day in downtown Hancock.
“We really just like putting these events together and to be able to see people enjoying them and having a great day,” HBA Vice President Ariele Pizzo said.
Local businesses along Quincy Street in downtown Hancock offered a variety of free and low-cost activities that are, “Kid tested, family approved.”
Celebrations Bridal and Formal had girls ages four to 10 become princesses. Church of the Resurrection had kids decorating cupcakes in the old bike shop. Northwoods Sporting Goods had archery. Kids could plant a seed at City Hall. North Wind Books held a number of events, including a weather coloring activity, life cycles matching game, counting safari and nature word search. K.C. Bonker’s had bubblers. Magic Kiln Studio allowed children to create a clay fingerprint charm.
“We work with the city of Hancock a lot for these events,” said Pizzo. “They really help boost this and bring the businesses together and working as a community to just build up our city.”
Pizzo is also the Keweenaw Co-op Marketing & Outreach Coordinator. She says the Co-op had coloring and organic fruit and cookies for free.
“We always have free food here for our Co-op explorers but we just got a bunch more here today,” Pizzo said. “We also have cookies and some spring coloring just to take some time to refresh and relax a little bit.”
This is the second year downtown Hancock has hosted Kids Day. Pizzo says it’s an important event for the HBA.
“Just being able to have that sense of community, being able to go out and see those other members in your community and to participate in something together that other members of the community put together,” said Pizzo. “We just wanted people to have a good time.”
Kids Day concluded with a free screening of Disney’s “Big Hero 6” at the Orpheum Theater.
