Conway Symphony Orchestra brings musical magic to kids with ‘Three Pigs and the Wolf’

This weekend, the Conway Symphony Orchestra is set to delight children in Central Arkansas with a free concert at the Faulkner County Library. The performance, titled “The Three Pigs and the Wolf,” will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The orchestra aims to provide an interactive experience for children, allowing them to learn about the instruments and hear the sounds of the orchestra. “We wanted to have a concert for the children that would give them an interactive experience to meet the instruments and to hear the sounds of the orchestra, to get their hands on them,” said Jan Adcock.

The story has been adapted to focus on learning to play together. “The pigs don’t want to play with the wolf because he plays too loudly, but then he learns how to play softly, and then they all play together and have a good time,” said Paul Dickinson.

The event will also feature original artwork and hands-on craft activities from the Conway Symphony Orchestra Guild. Additionally, there will be an instrument petting zoo, allowing children to get up close and personal with the instruments.

The concert is part of the orchestra’s outreach and education program, which aims to connect with children and build future musicians. “It’s really important that our children understand that music is not only part of our community, but part of their lives,” said Ruthann Curry Browne..

The performance will be narrated by the orchestra’s maestro, Izzy Getzov. “You don’t want to miss Izzy’s storytelling”.

The free concert will take place on April 5 from 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Faulkner County Library.

In addition to this event, the Conway Symphony Orchestra is preparing for their final concert of the season on April 26, celebrating their 40th anniversary and the retirement of pianist Neil Rutman. The concert will take place at the new Wingate Performance Hall on the UCA campus.
