Another sure sign that spring is here in Detroit is the return of Downtown Street Eats, the lunchtime food truck gatherings in Cadillac Square and the Woodward Esplanade.
This year’s season kicks off Monday and runs through Oct. 10, with different food trucks serving lunch to around 2,500 people 11 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.
“Each year, our Downtown Detroit Street Eats program brings something new and exciting to the table,” said Laura Dean in a press release. She’s the director of parks and public spaces for the Downtown Detroit Partnership. “With a fantastic mix of returning favorites and fresh food trucks joining the lineup, there’s no shortage of delicious options to explore. We’re proud to support local food entrepreneurs and create a vibrant lunchtime destination where Detroiters and visitors can gather, discover new flavors and enjoy the city’s energy.”
Chef Nicholas Lodato’s Twisted Street BBQ is new to the lineup this year, along with Old Shillelagh and La Amapola. They join old favorites like the Rolling Stoves, Hero or Villain, the Lobster Food Truck, Cousins Maine Lobster, Egg Roll Diva and others. More than 80 trucks and carts will rotate throughout the season.
Opening week’s schedule includes Gambino’s Catering and the Great Greek Mediterranean Grill on April 7 and Big Bo’s Grill, Cynt-Sational Eats, Impasto, Rolling Stone Pizza, This & That Café and Twisted Street BBQ on April 8.
Wing Snob, Hero of Villain, Smoke Ring and the Rolling Stoves take over on April 9 and the biggest day is April 10 with Food Fun Express, Grand Traverse Pie Co., Los Dos Amigos Taco Truck, Sonny’s Hamburgers and the Lobster Food Truci. Clara’s Place and Hero or Villain serve on Friday, April 11.
Cadillac Square is just outside Campus Martius between the Woodward Loop and Bates street. The Woodward Esplanade is the portion of Woodward closed to traffic near Jefferson. View the lineup of food trucks each week by visiting downtowndetroit.org/events.
