Attempting to shake off Thursday’s loss, Reds host Kids Opening Day

Maybe the kids are what the Reds need right now?Reds Opening Day on Thursday was an exceptionally great day for many of the team’s faithful fans. At least, that is, until the final few minutes of the game. This abrupt changing of the tides came, of course, because of the Reds’ 6-4 loss in the ninth inning against the San Francisco Giants. This was after Cincinnati managed to lead for the first eight innings of the game. The loss also came after spirits were incredibly high within Cincinnati following the city’s iconic annual parade that marched through the heart of the city just hours before and saw the return of former Reds third baseman Chris Sabo as grand marshal and thrower of the game’s ceremonial first pitch. Now, on Saturday, the Reds have another chance to “redo” Opening Day, but this time with the children as the team’s main focus. As part of Kids Opening Day, the team had many events available for children outside of the ballpark prior to the team’s rematch with the Giants. This included a mascot parade and a red carpet event with the team’s players. All children 14 and younger also were given free Reds baseball caps upon entry.“It’s always a good time, and it’s perfect weather,” said Kristen Meyers, the director of marketing for the Cincinnati Reds. “Look around. We’re building family memories here today from start to finish.”The first pitch of the second game of the Reds-Giants series will take place at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday. For those not attending the game in-person, the game can be watched with a subscription to FanDuel Sports Network. The team will also face off again against the Giants on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. for the final game of the series before going on to host the Texas Rangers next week.
