PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — The Providence Culinary Collective kicked off Thursday with a food distribution event helping nearly 400 food insecure families.
According to officials, Price Rite Marketplace partnered with Feed the Children to deliver food and essentials to local families.
Around 400 families received a 25-pound box of food, a 15-pound box of hygiene essentials backpacks filled with school supplies and books, Price Rite gift cards and more, event organizers said.
The distribution event occurred at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
The event leaders said families were pre-identified by Community Action Partnership of Providence and Boys & Girls Club of Providence.
The distribution event happened after the opening ceremony of the Providence Culinary Collective, which begins today and runs through Sunday.
There will be specialized cooking classes, guest chef menus, food truck events and more this weekend.
