Couple arrested after police find 6 kids in ‘disgusting’ conditions in Preston County

TUNNELTON, W.Va (WDTV) – A couple was arrested in Preston County Wednesday after police found six children — ages 1, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 10 —in “disgusting” conditions at a home in Tunnelton.

Chester Keen, 47, of Grantsville, and Brittany Nelson, 28, of Kingwood, were arrested and charged with two counts of felony child neglect creating risk of injury each, according to West Virginia State Police.

Police responded to the area after receiving a call that there were two children — ages 1 and 3 — in the roadway in minimal to no clothing in 30-degree weather.

The home that all of the children were residing in was described as “being in disarray, unsanitary, and simply put, disgusting” and “dangerous in nature,” court documents say.

There was no heat source for the home aside from an open, unsecure stove, police said.

The two youngest children were taken to Preston Memorial Hospital for treatment and observation.

Keen and Nelson are both currently in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail with bond set at $50,000 each.
