Monday’s prep highlights: Mahomet-Seymour baseball wins big

In baseball

Centennial 10, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 7. Three hits from Ty Hunt — including a triple — helped the Chargers secure a road win over the Panthers (2-2) in nonconference play, with Cal Meyers adding a double among two hits of his own to help the winning cause. Tate Sauer racked up eight strikeouts in four innings on the bump for the Chargers (1-3), with Tyler Cole‘s three-hit effort leading the Panthers. 

Champaign Central 10, Hoopeston Area 0. Two hits apiece from John Timmons, Patrick Kennedy and Oliver Brandow helped the Maroons (4-2) tackle the Cornjerkers (1-3) in a nonconference game, with Ryan Pipkins adding a double and seven strikouts in five innings of work on the mound. 

Mahomet-Seymour 19, Danville 0. Miles Woolsey and Kirby Savener teamed up to shut down the Vikings (0-1) as the Bulldogs (2-1) collected an emphatic road victory. Leading the charge among Mahomet-Seymour’s 12-hit effort were Camden Heinold and Matthew Kirby, who each collected doubles among two hits apiece. 

Rantoul 10, Villa Grove 0. Eli Reichenbach‘s two-run, two-hit, three-RBI effort included a home run as the Eagles (2-0) secured a road win over the Blue Devils (1-2), with Dalton Gernentz chipping in three runs and two hits and Levi Duitsman adding two runs and two hits to help the winning cause. Reichenbach fanned seven batters in six innings of work on the mound, while Jackson Gire had the lone hit for the Blue Devils.

Unity 5, Oakwood 0. Tyler Henry‘s three-inning, two-strikeout, two-walk effort on the mound led the Rockets (2-1) to a nonconference win agains the host Comets (1-3), with Brayden Henry collecting two hits and swiping a pair of bases and Coleton Langendorf driving in a pair of runs to lead Unity’s offense. Chase Harrison struck out six batters in five innings of work for Oakwood. 

Westville 17, Paris 1. The Tigers (2-0) went on the road and combined for 18 hits before returning home with a nonconference win, with Matthew Darling hitting a home run and a double to lead the offensive charge. Cameron Steinbaugh, Easton Bolin and Ben Johnson added two hits apiece to help the winning cause. 

In softball

Champaign Central 18, St. Teresa 1. Fifteen hits helped the Maroons (1-0) cruise to a nonconference win in Decatur, with Kaitlyn Helm hitting a double and a triple and Grace Bandy adding a double to lead the offensive charge. Ten different Maroons collected hits over the course of the victory. 

Fisher 16, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 0. Avery Carleton had a triple among four hits and Paige Hott hit a home run as part of a three-hit, four-RBI effort to lead the Bunnies (1-1) past the Panthers in a nonconference game. Aubrey Busboom had the lone hit for Paxton-Buckley-Loda (1-2). 

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 10, Tri-County 4. Chloe Stephenson fanned 10 batters in seven innings of work in the circle, yielding just six hits throughout a comfortable nonconference win for the Buffaloes (2-3) over the Titans (0-3). 

St. Joseph-Ogden 10, Oakwood 2. Five strikeouts from Amelia Huckstadt over the course of a complete game led the Spartans (1-3) past the Comets (2-3), while Grace Osterbur and Thea Smith had two hits apiece and Byrnn Ikemier drove in three runs to round out the winning effort. Gracie Hanner led Oakwood with three hits.

Westville 16, Heritage 0. Home field advantage worked in favor of the Tigers (4-0), who downed the Hawks (0-2) thanks to a seven-run first inning and six runs in the second frame. Lily Kiesel and Taylor Valangeon hit doubles for Westville, which also received four innings of eight-strikeout ball from Layla Atwood.  

In girls’ soccer

Champaign Central 9, Charleston 0. A commanding win for the Maroons (1-0) was keyed by three goals from Caroline Blount, two scores apiece from Chloe Sikora and Rylie Schulze and additional strikes from Halle Youse and Helen Fisher. Schulze added three assists for the host Maroons, while Maya McCaffrey chipped in a pair of assists of her own. 

Urbana 2, Arthur Christian 1. A penalty kick goal from Lily Schroeder and a score from Savannah Finley off an assist from Schroeder made the difference for Urbana (1-0), which relied on 15 saves from Nox MacDougall en route to a nonconference win against the Conquering Riders (2-2). Brileigh Mast scored the lone goal for the Conquering Riders.  

In boys’ track and field

At Hoopeston. A four-team meet hosted by Hoopeston Area went in favor of Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, which scored 80 points to best the Cornjerkers (43), Heritage (12) and Armstrong-Potomac (11). BHRA’s individual winners were Mason Cunningham (100 meter dash, 11.68 seconds and 200 dash, 23.79), Isaac Cahill (high hump, 1.58 meters), Dylan Graves (long jump, 6.01), Conner Powell (shot put, 13.07 and discus, 38.99). Hoopeston Area’s winners included Keenon Andrew (400 dash, 53.05), Clark Roland (800 run, 2:12.82 and 1600 run, 5:25.22) and Garrett Owen (3200 run, 11:47.91). 

In girls’ track and field

At Hoopeston. Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin scored 80 points to win a four-team meet against host Hoopeston Area (20), Heritage (20) and Armstrong-Potomac (19), with Neveah Scott winning the 200 meter dash (30.74 seconds), Natalie Thomason winning the 400 dash (1:08.29) and long jump (4.67 meter), Aleah Potter winning the 1600 run (5:54.24) and 3200 run (12:34.86), Emily Dice winning the 100 hurdles (18.88) and 300 hurdles (1:00.36) and Alli Hughes winning the shot put (7.85 meters). Heritage scored individual wins in the 100 dash (Bre Ploense, 13.77) and triple jump (Loran Tate, 9.46).
