Kids invited to learn about demolition in downtown Jonesboro

Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — March 24, 2025 — The Downtown Jonesboro Alliance (DJA) and Nabholz Construction will be hosting a Lunch ‘N Learn where children are invited to see the Nabholz equipment in action, ask questions, and learn how demolition works.

The event takes place on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Union Park. Families must bring their own lunches.

Downtown Jonesboro Alliance executive director Sarah Doss said the DJA is making an effort to diversify its events this year.

“This one was actually an idea from Sarah Reeves, and we loved it so much we decided to run with it,” Doss said, noting that Reeves is a DJA committee member and manager of Skinny J’s restaurant downtown. “The event is free to the public, no need to register.”

Kids will learn about the demolition of the former Citizens Bank building. The method being used is wet demolition, which involves spraying the part of the building currently being demolished with water, preventing any asbestos-containing material from becoming airborne.

The demolition, which is projected to cost $3.25 million, began March 10 and is expected to take eight to 12 weeks.

“We will be hearing from the superintendent of the job site [Nabholz Construction Superintendent Howard Ballard] as well as various other staff about what’s going on in the demo and about each of the unique pieces of equipment we have brought in for this specifically. Nabholz even has prizes while supplies last. We are so excited for this event,” Doss said.
