I might get a lot of haters for this, but Shake Shack has the best burgers! The burger chain always delivers the most perfectly put-together sandwiches. And sure, Five Guys and Whataburger are good contenders, but Shake Shack always outshines.
Naturally, this opinion has caused some, um, division at Delish, so we decided to ask fans which fast-food burger reigns supreme, and the results were interesting, to say the least.
But before I reveal fans’ top choices, here are some much-needed details: we included 9 fast-food chains known for their burgers, from McDonald’s to White Castle, In-N-Out, Wendy’s, and Burger King, among others.
To no one’s surprise, most commenters chose In-N-Out as their No. 1 pick. “In-N-Out, In-N-Out, that’s what a hamburger is all about 🍔,” one user wrote. “I’m just going to say it. In-N-Out is the best…their grilled onions and sauce are what really make it!” read another comment. As someone who’s eaten In-N-Out twice, I get the hype. Maybe if I lived on the West Coast, my burger opinion would change, but alas, Shake Shack is still my fave.
And it’s a favorite of a few others, too. Some fans commented that they prefer Shake Shack or Five Guys.
Interestingly, a handful said Culver’s—though it wasn’t featured—makes the best fast-food burger. A couple of comments even asked why the Wisconsin-based chain wasn’t included. “The correct answer is Culver’s,” one person wrote. “These are good, but Culver’s should be up there too ❤️,” read another comment.
McDonald’s, Burger King, White Castle, and Wendy’s received a few votes of their own. And so did Dairy Queen, which was also not featured. A few fans also said they preferred their own homemade burgers over fast-food chains.
One person even commented that they’ve perfected their own hamburger, which tastes better than any fast-food option.
“I am beginning to appreciate my own home-cooked hamburger as I get older,” they wrote. “Fast food just doesn’t do it for me like it used to. It doesn’t quite taste the same.”
Finally, some fans said they couldn’t choose, as it depends on what mood they’re in and what type of food they’re looking for. A valid decision because I love eating McDonald’s in the wee hours of the morning, but I definitely wouldn’t but I definitely wouldn’t pick it for a sit-down meal. “It’s hard having to make this choice at 2am…I want them all 😭,” one person wrote. Same, girl. Same.
Ultimately, whether you’re a Shake Shack loyalist like me or an In-N-Out fan, it’s clear that we all have our go-to burger. What’s yours? Let us know in the comments.
