OAKLAND, Maine (WGME) — Dozens of Mainers made a cold splash for a great cause.
On Saturday, the Alfond Youth and Community Center held its 32nd annual polar plunge to fight food insecurity.
Participants braved the frigid waters of Messalonskee Lake to raise money for families in need.
Right now, the organization says thousands of families across Central Maine don’t have consistent access to nutritious meals and that’s why events like these are important for helping those families get by.
The polar plunge took place in the town of Oakland, that’s right next to Waterville.
Hot drinks and warm blankets were on hand for participants to thaw out from the cold dip.
