Food Network’s ‘The Great Food Truck Race’ returns to Myrtle Beach this weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – A popular Food Network show pitting food trucks against each other is back in the Grand Strand this weekend.

“The Great Food Truck Race” will be filming on Saturday in Myrtle Beach. Crews made their way up from Savannah and Charleston, with the remaining trucks in the competition hanging around Plyler Park on Friday.

Some of the trucks have also paired up with local businesses and breweries to host lunch on Saturday. Fat Kidd Food Co. will be at Grand Strand Brewing Company on Nance Plaza, while Tidal Creek Brewhouse will host Good Fortune Co. at The Market Common.

“The Great Food Truck Race” previously filmed an episode in Myrtle Beach that aired in 2019. The show’s host, South Carolina native Tyler Florence, reflected on returning to the area as he met with fans on Friday.

“Myrtle Beach is such a great stop for us along the route of ‘The Great Food Truck Race’ this particular season because it’s so iconic,” he said. “You know, the Boardwalk, Myrtle Beach…I grew up in South Carolina. I used to vacation here when I was a kid. So it’s so great to be back. The local residents are loving it, we’re having such a great time here, and Myrtle Beach is rolling out the red carpet.“

The food trucks are competing on the show for a $50,000 grand prize.

While Myrtle Beach businesses are excited about possible foot traffic, residents and visitors said they’re also feeling the buzz around the show’s return.

“It’s just very exciting,“ said Jerzee Bochinski. ”All the different types of foods to try and we even got to meet the host.”

The food trucks are expected to stick around in Myrtle Beach through the weekend. Segments are set to be filmed from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Plyler Park.
