Parents want this Ann Arbor school rebuild to protect kids at play — and keep mud off their shoes

ANN ARBOR, MI – Exposure to outdoor play space and addressing muddy fields were among chief concerns and positive feedback alike surrounding plans to rebuild an elementary school on the southwest side of Ann Arbor.

Ground could break in 2026 for a building to replace Lawton Elementary School, 2250 S. 7th St., It would be complete in 2028 as one of several massive rebuilds in the works as part of Ann Arbor Public Schools’ next phase of its $1 billion capital bond.
