New Orleans named best food city in the world by Time Out

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Crescent City has been crowned the best food city in the world by Time Out, surpassing international hotspots Costa Rica, Portugal, and India.

Time Out’s annual survey found that 93% of locals rated their city highly for food and dining, ranking New Orleans among the top three globally in local satisfaction. The city’s storied culinary traditions, combined with its modern, award-winning restaurants, set it apart from other world-renowned food destinations.

From seafood gumbo to jambalaya, shrimp Creole, and beignets, New Orleans’ food scene is deeply rooted in its history and culture. Many restaurants have served generations of diners, including historic institutions like Commander’s Palace, Willie Mae’s, and Dooky Chase’s.

In addition to its iconic staples, the city is home to an expanding food scene, where chefs are blending Louisiana flavors with global cuisines at Dakar (Senegalese), Acamaya (Mexican), and Saffron (Indian).

Gerrish Lopez, Time Out’s New Orleans contributor, praised the city’s vibrant food culture, noting that locals celebrate cuisine year-round with major events like the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Gumbo Festival, and the Beignet Festival.

The city’s restaurant landscape remains dynamic, with several new additions in 2025:

  • Bodega – A fresh take on the classic corner store with gourmet offerings.
  • Patula – A hidden courtyard dining experience bringing new flavors to the city.
  • Dr. Jones – A standout Metairie restaurant gaining attention for its bold menu.
  • Here Today Rotisserie – A new favorite, specializing in inventive chicken dishes.
