When I was a kid, I started collecting coins to earn a Cub Scout merit badge; one coin of each denomination from the year I was born. It was my first collection of anything and little did I know what I’d triggered. I’ve since collected everything from baseball cards to sneakers to palindromes, to wine, with lots in between.
Many of the bottles in our wine collection are inexpensive, everyday value wines. Most of these are tried and true while others are unknown quantities whose worthiness is to be determined. Then there are my “friends.” These are the age-worthy bottles from highly regarded wineries that I’ve either had previously or are more of those unknown experiments that I expect (hope!) will be terrific. These wines are a little more expensive.
